AI email assistant review
Lavender review
Best for: SDRs, BDRs, AEs, founders, and sales managers who write one-to-one outbound email and want feedback inside Gmail, Outlook, or an existing sales-engagement tool.
Our review
The full take on Lavender
Lavender is an inbox-native sales email coach for SDRs, AEs, and sales teams that scores drafts, suggests fixes, generates and personalizes copy, and gives managers aggregate coaching analytics. It is a good fit when the buyer already has a sending or sales-engagement stack and wants real-time writing guidance inside it; it is not a sequencer, CRM, or general-purpose inbox manager. The product is active, but recent named-product community evidence is thin and its public privacy summary should be read together with the more detailed retention language in the full privacy policy.
Features and fit
What Lavender does
Real-time email and template scoring; suggested fixes and one-click "Apply All Fixes"; first-draft generation; prospect-data and personality-based personalization suggestions; mobile optimization; team coaching and aggregate performance analytics. The Coach page says its generative stack includes OpenAI systems, self-hosted fine-tuned models, and models informed by Lavender's own email data.
Product type
Browser extension and Outlook add-in with a web dashboard; editorial category verified as sales-email-coach, not a general inbox assistant or autonomous sending platform.
Email and platform support
Gmail and Microsoft Outlook / Outlook 365. Lavender also names Outreach, Salesloft, HubSpot, Apollo, Groove, and Gong as supported workflow integrations on the Coach page. First-party help pages additionally document Salesforce and Outlook desktop installation, with Outlook for Mac requiring Microsoft Business Standard or above.
Pricing
Plans and cost
On the current Coach pricing section, Basic is $0 with five analyzed and five personalized emails per month. Starter is $27/month billed annually or $29 month-to-month. Individual Pro is $45/month billed annually or $49 month-to-month. Team is $89/seat/month billed annually or $99/seat month-to-month; custom Starter, Growth, and Enterprise team arrangements are also mentioned.
Free plan or trial
Free-forever Basic plan plus a seven-day trial with all integrations and no credit card. Lavender also says the Email Coach is free for students, jobseekers, and bootstrapped entrepreneurs; eligibility steps are linked from the Coach page.
Privacy and security
What happens to your email data
Lavender states that it is SOC 2 Type 2 certified and GDPR compliant, uses Google/Microsoft OAuth, encrypts data in transit with TLS and at rest with AES, and by default accesses only the draft being worked on (privacy summary). The full privacy policy adds important detail: with consent, historic correspondence may be collected and retained for up to two years for analysis and insights; third-party data may be used to improve products, including de-identified model training; Google Workspace API data is explicitly excluded from training generalized AI or ML models. These statements should be presented together, not reduced to "Lavender never stores email."
Security certifications and data-handling commitments are attributed to the vendor unless the supporting audit artifact was independently reviewed.
Independent signal
What users are saying
The named-product run did not surface reliable Lavender-specific discussion in the window. Broader sales discussions favor using AI for coaching, revision, and a researched opening line rather than fully generated emails, and raise employer-policy concerns about inbox/CRM access. Those category signals align with Lavender's positioning but are not direct product endorsements.
Weak. Most TikTok, Instagram, GitHub, and Reddit matches were keyword collisions or generic email/sales content, so they are excluded from product claims.
2026-07-10 through 2026-08-09
A hands-on review calls Lavender strongest for reps learning cold-email craft and says teams with an active human writing coach may not need it. It reports a 30-day, eight-SDR test, but the methodology and conversion links were not independently audited.
Current workflow-fit opinion, with a likely commercial conversion incentive to keep in view.
A competing cold-email platform characterizes Lavender as a coaching layer rather than a sending platform and aggregates complaints about crashes, slow loading, disappearing icons, and rendering failures.
Useful limitation evidence, but Woodpecker is a direct commercial competitor and its comparison framing is not neutral.
G2 shows 4.8/5 from 62 reviews and says the vendor manages the claimed profile; its review summary includes both praise for real-time feedback and criticism that some suggestions over-focus on sentence length.
Marketplace sentiment with disclosed vendor profile control; individual review recency must be checked before quoting.
One broad r/sales discussion favors AI as a coach and for specific opening-line research rather than whole-email generation; commenters also raise company-policy concerns about connecting AI to email/CRM. This is category-level, not Lavender-specific evidence.
Current user language supports the coaching use case and security objection, but cannot be presented as Lavender testimony.
Limitations
What to know before choosing Lavender
- The privacy summary says analyzed email is immediately deleted and historic data is encrypted for analysis and never saved, while the full privacy policy says consented historic correspondence may be stored for up to two years. Editorial copy must preserve this scope distinction and should not claim "Lavender never stores emails" without qualification.
- Public evidence supports a specialized sales email coach, not a broad AI inbox assistant. It should appear in sales-outreach categories and comparisons, not be described as inbox triage, shared support, or autonomous sequencing.
- The live Chrome listing demonstrates continued availability and meaningful installs, but its package has not been updated since December 2024. Confirm whether Outlook, web, or server-side components have newer releases before making a broad "frequently updated" claim.
- Public pricing disagrees with several 2026 third-party reviews, especially Team pricing. Use only the current first-party page and date-stamp it.
- The official @lavenderhq X handle was found only after the social run; X itself was unavailable. Do not infer current X activity.
- No Lavender-owned affiliate page or terms surfaced. OpenAffiliate's 20% recurring claim is unverified. If the directory later uses an affiliate link, label the commercial relationship clearly and keep affiliate economics out of rankings.
- AI Tools Bakery may benefit from outbound conversion links; Woodpecker is a competitor; Prospecting Manual discloses affiliate links; G2 says Lavender manages its claimed profile. These sources can inform limitations or sentiment but should not determine ranking position.
