Missive is an active collaborative email client and shared inbox for teams, with an AI assistant that can search connected inboxes and calendars, summarize threads, draft replies, use team instructions, automate semantic routing, and access outside tools through MCP. It is best suited to support, sales, operations, agency, and professional-services teams that need collaboration inside email rather than a personal-only writing assistant. The most important limitations are that AI is limited to the Productive and Business plans, email content is sent to the selected AI provider when an AI feature runs, web search is intentionally disabled, and Missive is not HIPAA compliant.

When billed annually, Starter is $14, Productive is $24, and Business is $36 per user per month. Starter is capped at five users, Productive at 50, and Business supports unlimited users. The Productive and Business plans include the AI assistant; AI usage then consumes Missive credits or incurs charges directly from the team's chosen provider under BYOK.
Free plan or trial
The public pricing page offers a 30-day trial with no credit card. Its FAQ also says every account starts on a free plan, but the current plan cards do not specify the permanent free tier's limits; those limits are not safe to publish without a current billing source.

What happens to your email data
Missive says it does not sell user data, encrypts database and cloud-storage data at rest, is SOC 2 Type II compliant, is GDPR compliant with a DPA, and passes Google's annual OAuth security assessment. Missive says it does not train AI models on customer email. When an AI feature is used, relevant content is sent to the chosen provider under that provider's retention and training policy. Missive says its application is hosted in AWS us-east-1 and explicitly says it is not HIPAA compliant and does not sign BAAs.
Security certifications and data-handling commitments are attributed to the vendor unless the supporting audit artifact was independently reviewed.

Current threads show an actively maintained product and detailed workflow help, but also complaints from a long-time customer about search quality, responsiveness, and product priorities. Another user wanted local-model control rather than Missive credits or the supported large-model providers. The July release discussion confirms continued interest in AI drafts and model support, while also surfacing a quiet-hours question.

Limitations
What to know before choosing Missive
- The current AI overview says both that Missive is BYOK-only with no extra AI charge and, elsewhere, that Missive AI credits are available. The dedicated AI page and April 2026 changelog confirm credits plus BYOK, so do not repeat the older "BYOK only" or "no extra AI charge" wording.
- The permanent free-plan limits are not clearly disclosed on the current public pricing cards. Publish the 30-day no-card trial, but do not publish unsourced free-tier limits.
- AI processing sends relevant content to a third-party provider selected by the customer. Privacy language must preserve this qualification.
- SOC 2 and GDPR statements are first-party claims; the SOC 2 report was not reviewed in this research pass.
- Missive is explicitly not HIPAA compliant. This is a hard disqualifier for workflows requiring a BAA.
- Custom MCP servers expand capability and security exposure. Do not imply they are reviewed or endorsed by Missive.
- The assistant does not currently search the public web. Do not claim general web-research capability.
